Zhang Huan Giant No. 3 2008
Reason #423 to live in New York: Zhang Huan has been one of my favorite Chinese contemporary artists for quite a while. His performance pieces are completely moving and his level of commitment to his pieces is truly unrivaled. Unfortunately I have not been lucky enough to see any of his sculptures or other artworks for that matter, in person. So when I was poking around the internet and stumbled across this piece I was a little bummed.
It showed at PaceWildenstein and since I don’t live near there and no one seems to be financing my potential lifestyle of jetsetting and they don’t have an LA gallery,* I didn’t get to see it. Here is the bummer: there aren’t any good pictures of this piece online. I can kind of see what it is about, I can read what Roberta Smith thinks about it, but I can’t see it and interact with the space. There, you have it, my whine of the day.
*PaceWildenstein, if you are reading this and want to open a space here in LA, I’m your girl.
