ARLINGTON, TX. Dallas Cowboys owners Gene and Jerry Jones, along with their family, today announced the Dallas Cowboys Art Program, an ongoing initiative to commission contemporary artists to create monumental, site-specific installations for the recently completed Cowboys Stadium. The program launches with 14 commissioned artworks, which will be installed in prominent locations throughout the Stadium. Franz Ackermann, Annette Lawrence, and Olafur Eliasson are among those who have created new work for the program.  via…

Well, now I feel bad for harassing all my guy friends in high school about how much better the Giants were than the Cowboys.   Not really actually.  It was fun to watch them try to argue with me about how that wasn’t possible.  Little did they know, their efforts were futile, because I don’t care about football.  Not even a little bit.

The Serpentine Pavilion by Frank Gehry, a time lapse video!

I actually think this looks like he dropped his model on the ground, haphazardly glued it back together while drunk and then said “Build this!”*  but, in the great tradition of internet enthusiasts before me, I can appreciate a good time lapse video.

*Compared to Olafur Eliasson’s Pavillion? Seriously? How could you follow an act like that, even if you are Frank Gehry?

Pipilotti RIst Apple Tree Innocent on DIamond Hill 2003

Rist is the second recipient of the Joan Miro Award.  The first recipient was Olafur Eliasson, and well, he’s been doing alright for himself since then hasn’t he?  Not that she didn’t have a great year with her show and all the positive reviews.  Good times.

You can only see this installation from outside and after dark. So Vampirish.
You can see the full set here.

    Olafur EliassonFan

It is a fan, suspended from a cord attached to the ceiling.  It is self propelled and just circles.  It is hypnotizing.  I saw it at SFMOMA a bit ago.

Much cooler than the Koons train.  Just saying.

The 1st BMW Art Car by Alexander Calder.
I have blogged about the BMW art cars before, but besides Olafur Eliasson’s, I have never seen any in person, until February 12-24 when they will be showing right down the street at LACMA! I am super excited for this one.  It is only 4 out of 16 but the one’s included are Calder’s (above), Robert Rauschenberg, Frank Stella and Andy Warhol’s.
Should be a good show!

Christoph Keller Whole Earth, 2006/07 (Video Still)
This is from a show called Moral Imagination: Current Positions in Contemporary Art in the Face of Global Warming at the Museum Morsbroich in Germany.  I know I am not that big into political art, unless it comes to the environment.  I am really intrigued to see what these artists, such as Ursula Bieman, Olafur Eliasson, Douglas Gordon, Tue Greenfort, and Gordon Matta-Clark are showing.  This proves to be the most interesting show so far of 2009.
So…who wants to go to Germany?
