» Ten US Museum Exhibitions to see in 2010

This is a pretty good list that isn’t even NYC-centric! Of course it has the Marina Abramovic show at MOMA that I couldn’t be more excited about and the John Baldessari show that is travelling to LACMA, but it also has the Cattelan show at the de Menil in Houston that I was so upset about missing.

Here are a few more shows that I am also looking forward to seeing this year…

    Tara Donovan, Untitled (detail), 2008

Tara Donovan has an exhibition up at MCASD through the end of February.  I am DEFINITELY planning a trip to San Diego soon.  How could I not? It’s the same show that ICA Boston planned last year that I was drooling over.

The ICA Boston is opening an exhibition on Friday that looks incredible.  This is following exhibitions ICA put on for Tara Donovan and Annish Kapoor…and that Shepard Fairey one that drew a little attention.

I’ll say it, ICA is on a roll.

Tara Donovan Untitled (straight pins), Untitled (toothpicks), Untitled (glass) all 2004

They are all held together by friction and gravity, you do sometimes have to sweep up the extras that fall on the ground.  You wouldn’t want anyone slipping, would you?

Anywho, she is having her show up at the Des Moines Art Center and I guess she is attracting record crowds.

The Des Moines Art Center’s (DMAC) “Tara Donovan” exhibition drew the second largest opening fortnight crowds in decades and has been particularly popular with younger audiences. What’s more, those crowds are lingering longer than usual, taking time to check out Donovan’s sculptures from multiple perspectives. That’s exactly what the museum hoped for three years ago when it scheduled Donovan. via…

    Tara Donovan Untitled(Plastic Sheeting) 2009

In the same neighborhood is a more eye-grabbing sculpture by Tara Donovan, the artist known for spectacular accumulations of ordinary objects like plastic straws and disposable cups. Presented in the window of the Lever House Lobby, where it may be viewed from indoors as well as out, Ms. Donovan’s untitled piece consists of 2,500 pounds of plastic sheeting loosely folded into a wide box that is glassed in on the front and back and built into a freestanding white wall. via…

This is made of deconstructed copper wiring cut into little pieces.  It’s like a freeze-frame pond at sunset.
