Brooklyn Museum “Art Feed Artist” - Mike Monteiro

Hey kids, the Brooklyn Museum has handed me the keys to their 1stfans twitter account for the month of June. Why people trust me with their valuables I have NO idea. The twitter account itself is part of their membership program and costs $20/yr to join. (Yes, they’re doing it wrong.) But I’m all for supporting the Arts, and I promise to make the next 30 days some sort of fun.

Here’s a free preview of what I’ve done today:

A new spin for all you fashionistas/stylists who might be getting sick of just dealing with only last/this/next seasons fashions.  The Broklyn Museum has set up a styling site in collaboration with Polyvore to coincide with their exhibition (opening today) American High Style.

After reading the New Yorker piece, I spent a few hours on Polyvore—in awe—realizing the site was a perfect match for our American High Style exhibition, which opens today.  I mean, seriously, we’ve got some great stuff in this show…imagine being able to remix dresses by Charles James, Norman Norell, Gilbert Adrian, Charles Frederick Worth, Elsa Schiaparelli, Jeanne Lanvin, Jeanne Paquin, Madeleine Vionnet, and Christian Dior…sounds pretty exciting, right? In typical Brooklyn Museum tech style, we had very little time to put this together, but I figured an e-mail to the folks at Polyvore couldn’t hurt.  Turns out, they thought this was a perfect match too and were excited to work with us.

What are you waiting for? Go see if your fashion sense transcends generations and trends.  Then send me screen shots, because I’m nosey and want to know what you did!

Hospital’s Radiologists Analyze Brooklyn’s Mummies and Make Discovery

Four human mummies from the Brooklyn Museum’s renowned Egyptian collection underwent computed tomography or CT scanning at North Shore University Hospital on Long Island yesterday. Hospital spokeswoman Michelle Pinto said to MSNBC that the testing enables radiologists to learn about the bones and skeletal system of the mummies in extraordinary detail, without having to do invasive or damaging procedures. The CAT scan revealed a mummy named Lady Hor was male. “It’s definitely a man,” said Edward Bleiberg, curator of Egyptian art at the museum to the New York Daily News. “Physiologically, it’s really clear.” via…

    Gilbert and George Fates 2005
If you are in NY you have no excuse to not attend this show.  It’s Gilbert and George and the Tate curated it, what else do you need to know?  That’s what I thought.
