About

I consider myself an artful blogger. What more can I really say?

One of Damien Hirst’s paintings that is up at the Wallace Collection now.

I had the hardest time finding an article that didn’t have a picture of Hirst with the paintings. How telling.

Very dark paintings are difficult to read in pictures (especially over the internet) but my first reaction is too Bacon-y.  It reminds me of when Julian Schnabel trys to be Cy Twombly, kind of depressing and lacking.

Somehow they missed my boots/leggings/tunic/jacket uniform for the Vanity Fair’s International Best-Dressed List…AGAIN…But I like to think that in my place, they put Cy Twombly, which I am very ok with, because that man can rock suspenders like no other.

Next year Graydon, next year.

    Menil Collection

Going to take a shower and make myself presentable (for the first time during my sojourn to Houston) and then off to the Menil Collection. A little Rothko, Flavin, and Twombly to pick up any rainy/dreary day. Especially Flavin! I apologize for any graininess in my cell phone pictures that are to follow!

Update: Ok, I didn’t get to take as many pictures as I liked because a#1. you aren’t allowed to take pictures and the security guards were giving me the evil eye and b#2. It started raining like crazy so we had to leave. I am hoping tomorrow we are going to try again if the weather allows.

Reason #238 to win the lottery: So I can book a ticket to Spain and visit this retrospective at the Guggenheim-Bilbao and afterwards also buy the catalog!

Art crush of the day: Cy Twombly Untitled 2007
A few things I forget about some art when I am perusing the internet:

Cy Twombly’s pieces are huge.  I need to get to BCAM this weekend and check the ones they have on loan from the Broad Foundation. This time, try not to cause any trouble.
Cy Twombly turns 80 this year. That means he made these pieces when he was 79. Intense.
I heard from a trusted source that Julian Schnabel named his son Cy after Twombly.  It makes sense.
If you find yourself in Bilbao, the Guggenheim Bilbao is doing a major retrospective on him, guaranteed to impress.
