Elmgreen & Dragset Powerless Sculpture, Fig. 101 on my IPad wallpaper.

I have talked about s[edition] before and how excited I was about it and the idea of digital art on our mobile devices, and I finally downloaded my first piece. Conclusion? Grossly unimpressed. On the website it shows the piece rotating, so I was under the impression I was going to receive an ongoing video-esque piece for my IPad. This is how it shows all the pieces, moving, lights flickering…dynamic. I downloaded from “my vault” the piece you see above, and what did I get? Just a regular high res image of the piece. No movement, no activity, just a static image. I thought at first I did something wrong, and I redownloaded it on different devices, through different channels, and nothing.
I mean, while the photography is better lit and probably with better access I will get to some of the pieces they show, it really isn’t any different than me taking a high res image of a piece of art I like and posting it on my iPad.
Potentially I could have done something wrong, and I should be receiving a moving image, but the site made it too difficult for me to try and figure out that avenue so I am not going to give it another try. It was such a good idea, so poorly executed.
If any of you have experience with this site and can tell me I have done this correctly or horribly wrong, it would be much appreciated. For now, I’ll just look at my pretty image and be glad that I got it on a promotion that meant I didn’t actually have to pay for anything.

A 14ft ultramarine blue rooster by artist Katharina Fritsch has been successfully commissioned for the Forth Plinth in Trafalgar Square. Hahn / Cock will be installed in 2013. The rooster is “a symbol for regeneration, awakening and strength and finally, the work refers, in an ironic way, to male-defined British society and thoughts about biological determinism.” (previously)

Elmgreen & Dragset was selected to be the next artist featured on the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square. Who’s psychic? I’m psychic.

    Elmgreen & Dragset, Crash… Boom… Bang!, 2008

My official predicition for the next Fourth Plinth at Trafalgar Square.  A lot of genuine guess work and feminine intuition went into this decision, but a few things influenced me.
Everyone is talking about Marfa right now, and what do you think of when you think of Marfa? Prada Marfa.
Gossip Girl. ‘Nuf said.
They are popular and recognizable without being TOO well known.  I think that the Fourth Plinth people like to be able to take someone on the verge and push them.  Not that (critically speaking) Gormley needed any pushing, but I bet two years ago if I went up to any layman on the street and said “So how about that Antony Gormley?” the response would likely be “Who?”.

Brian Griffiths Stone Face Bear 2008

Griffiths is my underdog/wild card pick.  He isn’t the biggest name, but one of his cheaky sculptures would really fit in at Trafalgar Square.

    Mariele Neudecker Unrecallable Now 1998

While I do love her contemplative works on nature and existence, I don’t know how it will transition to such a public and hardy platform as the plinth.

    Hew Locke El Dorado 2005

No. Great artist, but not a chance. Especially since Shonibare was last.

    Allora & Calzadilla Clamor 2006
They have done some very interesting, and quiet, installation and interactive pieces.
They are wonderful artists, but we’ve already seen quiet and we’ve just finished had an interactive. Unless come August 19 they have produced something truley original and unseen, I don’t think we will be seeing them on the fourth plinth.

» Shortlist announced for Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square

The shortlist of artists for the next commission to go on the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square was announced today. The artists are Allora & Calzadilla, Elmgreen & Dragset, Katharina Fritsch, Brian Griffiths, Hew Locke and Mariele Neudecker.

The shortlisted artists have been commissioned to produce a maquette of their proposed work, which will be unveiled in an exhibition in the crypt of St Martins in the Fields on 19 August 2010.

The selected artist is due to be announced by the Mayor of London early next year, with the artwork they produce being installed after the current work, Nelson’s Ship in a Bottle by Yinka Shonibare MBE has been taken down at the end of 2011.

The Fourth Plinth Programme is funded by the Mayor of London and Arts Council England and sees new artworks being selected for the vacant plinth in a rolling programme of new commissions. A key element of the Fourth Plinth Programme is to involve people in the debate about public art. The public will have the opportunity to comment on the shortlisted proposals on cards at the exhibition and via the website following the unveiling of the proposals. (www.london.gov.uk/fourthplinth/).

I will begin my psychic practice, get back to y’all with examples of each artist’s work and my 100% guaranteed prediction of who will win.
