He makes these by preserving the blood on plexiglass.  If you had just told me about this piece I would have probably rolled my eyes at you and complained about what a boring idea, but actually looking at the pieces, it’s really quite beautiful.

While last night’s sale at Sotheby’s was non-eventful (not bad, just not interesting) there was one very exciting moment:

One artist record was set when Ethiopian-American artist Julie Mehretu’s ink and acrylic on canvas abstraction from 2005, Untitled (Dervish), made £241,250 (est. £200–300,000). Mehretu was one of the few 40-and-under artists included in the sale, which was dominated by blue-chip, museum-minted artists. via…
