books-on-tables asked: Do you have a/some favourite book(s)?

You guys respect me. I love it!

My current favorite art books are:

    1. Rebels in Paradise: The Los Angeles Art Scene and the 1960s - great story about Robert Irwin telling some woman to go fuck herself at a show of his.
    2. Art of the Heist - amazing memoir of a real life art thief.
    3. Carl Andre-Things In Their Elements - because nothing tops perfection.

It’s booky-wooky week over here at Hyde Headquarters. I’ve read too many,* lusted after more, but yet haven’t actually bought one. Weird. Anywho, today brings the announcement that Phaidon (how I love thee and your awesome blog) has come out with a collective on Luc Tuymans titled Is It Safe? I mean, is it? Let’s take a peek at what is inside…

With his muted palette, conspicuous brushwork and idiosyncratic approach to history, Luc Tuymans (b.1958) has changed the course of contemporary art, influencing a whole generation of figurative painters
Produced in close collaboration with the artist, Luc Tuymans: Is It Safe? presents more than 100 brand new paintings, most never before published
Insightful texts by Tuymans and essays by Pablo Sigg and Gerrit Vermeiren expand upon and contextualize this significant new body of work
Also included are the artist’s source images and numerous installation photographs
via…

Awesome right?

I am going to sell something on craigslist for the $70 to buy it. But what?

*Peter has all my blockbuster movies so I can’t return and grab new ones resulting in me reading 5 books in the last week or so.

Sometimes I make bad deicisions, like when I pass up buying Nedko Solakov’s 99 Fears, published by Phaidon, when I have a 33% off coupon! What is wrong with me!? I am now regretting happy with my Murakami purchase, but now that I am thinking about it, can Murakami give me this?
99 real and imagined anxieties of modern life captured by Bulgarian artist Nedko Solakov (b.1957)
99 fanciful ink drawings brought to life by handwritten captions that are infused with the sharp wit and offbeat humour that have made Solakov one of the most celebrated conceptual artists of his generation
A highlight of Documenta 12 (2007) and published here for the very first time
Solakov’s drawings are regularly exhibited in the world’s top museums and biennials, and he will be the subject of a mid-career survey at the Kunstmuseum Bonn in Fall 2008
Includes a scholarly text by critic Suzaan Boettger placing this series in the context of the artist’s prior work and connecting it to other representations of fear in art history
Another coupon, another purchase. I won’t make this same mistake twice.

Phaidon just came out with their new Atlas and I really want one.  However, if you get it before I manage to raise $200 for my “obscenely large book” fund, remember 2 things:
Don’t tell me because I will be very jealous.
Don’t put it on your glass coffee table because it weighs 16 lbs.
