Does this look especially forboding, or is it just me?
The plane, and the red drippy paint, and the France…Normally I would be turned off because of a lack of subtlety, but this just reinforces my fandom of Richter, he can do this image and still have me think. Maybe it is the pink tones in the red or the purposeful swooping strokes. Either way.

I always wonder what if what’s underneath is more beautiful then the paint. Then I realize the mystery is half the fun.

This is from his overpainted photographs series that I just lust over. Doesn’t this one remind you of when you are driving somewhere far and you can see yourself slowly approaching a big storm?* I love that and the curiousity of what he is hiding in the photograph.
*Obviously not here in LA, but when I drove to Vegas one time and sometimes in Austin. It doesn’t actually rain here, sometimes we get drizzles. And sprinklers.
